Beginning with the expeditions searching for the ‘lost cities’ of Central America in the 19th Century, this brief introduction will cover the development of the Mayan culture through to the mystery of its ‘collapse’ in the 10th century.
Burial Rites: Prehistoric funerary practices along the west coast of South America
From the oldest artificial mummies in the world in Chile to the Inka ‘Ice Maidens’, this lecture will cover the range of mortuary practices that have been unearthed by archaeologists investigating over 10,000 years of human occupation of this area.
