Join us in August as Dr Jeni Ryde continues our online lecture series, exploring the exuberance of Barcelona at the turn of the century.
No other architectural style has influenced the face of Barcelona as has that of Modernisme which, in the Catalan context, acquired a unique personality motivated by a strong desire to express the Catalonian identity. Over 2000 buildings can be attributed to this style or contain elements of it in Barcelona. Antoni Gaudí is the architect of the period most associated with Barcelona due to his innovative designs but there are many less known and equally prolific practitioners of Modernisme who are rarely acknowledged, yet contributed outstanding examples to the development of the style. This overview showcases the legacy of some of these unsung virtuosos in the fields of architecture, painting, sculpture and the decorative arts.
Held on Saturday 8th of August from 4.00pm* AEST, the live lecture session will be 90 minutes in length, with an hour’s presentation from your lecturer interspersed with time for moderated Q&A sessions.
The cost of the lecture is $25. The lecture will be recorded, and by attending the lecture you are consenting to being recorded.

We’ll send basic instructions on joining a lecture session for those who are new to Zoom, and each session will be hosted by an Academy Travel staff moderator who can help you troubleshoot any technical issues.
When joining the Zoom meeting, please ensure that your Zoom screen name matches the name you booked under, so that the Academy Travel host can admit you from the virtual ‘waiting room’.
