From Agamemnon to Alexander: Travels in Ancient Greece

March 26, 2019 @ 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM

Speaker: Dr John Tidmarsh

Archaeology Short Course at Mosman Art Gallery – Lecture 1 of 4

Our first lecture in our short course begins with archaeologist John Tidmarsh, as we explore many of the great sites of ancient and medieval Greece while focusing on three vital eras in its rich history. First we enter the world of the legendary Bronze Age kings Minos and Agamemnon whose rule stretched from Greece to the shores of the Levant, before turning to that of Classical Athens and the iconic sanctuaries of Olympia and Delphi, the latter incomparably situated on the slopes of Mount Parnassos. Finally we head north to Macedonia, home to Philip (buried in a spectacular tomb at Vergina) and his son Alexander (the Great) whose exploits altered the ancient world forever.

This lecture is free, though RSVP is required through our online booking system below. In making a booking, you are not required to attend all lectures and you may make a booking after the lecture series has begun.
