TRAVEL IN CONTEXT | LIVE ON THE GROUND | LEARN FROM A LOCAL
Join us in Rome, as we go live on site in a new and unique collaboration between our expert tour leaders and top local guides.
With its views over the forum, Michelangelo’s design and architecture, ancient sculpture and venerable museums, the Capitoline epitomises the many-layered marvels of the Eternal City. Expert local guide Agnes Crawford ascends, explores and descends one of the original seven hills of Rome, with background explanations by Academy Travel tour leader Robert Veel.
LECTURER & LOCAL GUIDE
Robert Veel has an abiding interest in the history, art and music of Italy, which he taught for many years at the University of Sydney’s Centre for Continuing Education as Assistant Director. A founding director of Academy Travel and the publisher of Limelight magazine, Robert has led small group cultural tours to Italy for 30 years and has a particular passion for Venice.
Agnes Crawford, a native Londoner, has a Master of Arts in Architectural History from the University of Edinburgh, and has lived in Rome for 20 years. Recommended as a local guide by the New York Times, Condé Nast Traveller and Forbes Travel Guide, Agnes has a 360-degree knowledge of Rome and is an expert at conveying the layers of history, art and culture of this eternally fascinating city.
How it works
Each virtual tour allows for in-depth exploration of key sites. Your local guide walks you around the sites and explains, in real time, the context and significance of what you see. The visits combine live on-the-street video with background context from your Academy Travel tour leader and interpretative visuals to help you see even the finest details. As it’s a small group, there’s plenty of time for discussion, to ensure you get the most from each visit.
The Live on Site tour is 90 minutes in length and held on Zoom. Places are limited, like every Academy Travel tour, to a maximum of 20 screens. The cost to subscribe to a Live on Site tour is $50. Online booking required – see details below. Each booking is for one screen.
Live on Site & Zoom
Our Live on Site tours will be hosted on Zoom, a free online education platform. If you don’t already have an account with Zoom, you will need to sign up at www.zoom.us. To join with video, you’ll also need a device with a camera (such as a computer, phone or tablet with a webcam). Otherwise you can join with audio only.
A confirmation of purchase will be sent to your email and once we receive your enrolment, we will send you an email with a link and password to use for Zoom to access your Live on Site tour. We’ll send basic instructions on joining a lecture session for those who are new to Zoom, and your Academy Travel lecturer will be available 15 minutes before the tour starts to help with any technical issues.
