Santiago Rusiñol

June 15, 2019 @ 2:30 PM - 3:30 PM

Speaker: Elena Ortega

Academy Travel are proud to sponsor the Friends of Hazelhurst Regional Gallery’s Artz Talk 2019 program.

Travel to the bohemian world of fin de siècle Barcelona and Montmartre by the hand of the charismatic Santiago Rusiñol (1861 – 1931), teacher of Pablo Picasso and close friend of Ramón Casas and Eric Satie. ‘Renaissance’ man of Modernist Barcelona, Rusiñol is as celebrated today for his plays, essays, and collections. However, we will focus on his passion for gardens, rendered in luminous and evocative paintings that will plunge us into the rich universe of this lesser known artist and magician of light.

Elena Ortega is a practicing painter who regularly exhibits her work, has a Bachelor of Arts from Sydney University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the National Art School, where she is currently undertaking a Masters. She has won numerous academic prizes for her study in art history and theory, including a scholarship to the London Royal College of Art.

The cost for this lecture is:

  • Friends of Hazelhurst $8
  • Non-members $14
