Sardinia and Corsica in the post-classical era

March 02, 2019 @ 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Speaker: Robert Veel

Academy Travel continue to be proud sponsors of the Nicholson Museum’s 2019 Saturday series, Postcards from the Past.

Following his lecture on prehistoric and Roman Sardinia in 2018, Robert Veel surveys these two Mediterranean islands from the Dark Ages to the dawn of the modern era. Experiments in communal rule, internecine struggles, centuries of harassment from North African pirates and the conquests of Aragon and Genoa have all combined to give the islands a distinctive character and traditions which persist today.

Robert Veel has a BA and Med from the University of Sydney, where he taught for many years, including many courses in Italian history, art and architecture. Each year he spends a few months in Italy, leading tours and working in his company’s Rome office. He is particularly interested in the politics, society and art of the Middle Ages. Robert has a thorough knowledge of the Italian peninsula and major islands, gained from 20 years of research, teaching and tour leading.

This event is free, though booking through the Nicholson Museum is required. Contact # (02) 9351 2812.
