Sardinia: a timeless Mediterranean Island

November 03, 2018 @ 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Speaker: Robert Veel

Academy Travel continue to be proud sponsors of the Nicholson Museum’s 2018 Saturday series, Postcards from the Past.

To this day Sardinia remains one of the most remote and little-understood islands of the Mediterranean. Yet it has a vast number of Bronze age sites, Phoenician and Roman archaeological sites, and successive layers of Aragonese, Pisan and Genoese influence. And some of the best cheese and wine in Italy. Join us as we explore Sardinia’s complex history and society.

Robert Veel has a BA and Med from the University of Sydney, where he taught for many years, including many courses in Italian history, art and architecture. Each year he spends a few months in Italy, leading tours and working in his company’s Rome office. He is particularly interested in the politics, society and art of the Middle Ages. Robert has a thorough knowledge of the Italian peninsula and major islands, gained from 20 years of research, teaching and tour leading.

This event is free, though booking through the Nicholson Museum is required. Contact # (02) 9351 2812.
