Sardinia: a timeless Mediterranean Island

May 19, 2018 @ 2:30 PM - 3:30 PM

Speaker: Robert Veel

Academy Travel are proud to sponsor the Hazelhurst Regional Gallery and Arts Centre’s Artz Talk 2018 program.

To this day Sardinia remains one of the most remote and little-understood islands of the Mediterranean. It has a vast number of Bronze age, Phoenician and Roman archaeological sites as well as Aragonese, Pisan and Genoese influence. And some of the best cheese and wine in Italy. Join Robert Veel as we explore Sardinia’s complex history and society. Robert has a thorough knowledge of the Italian peninsula and major islands, gained from 20 years of research, teaching and tour leading.

Robert holds a BA, Dip. Ed and M.Ed, all from the University of Sydney. He worked as a lecturer at the University of Sydney before a long stint at the University’s Centre for Continuing Education, lecturing in Italian history and culture and working as Assistant Director.  Robert continues to teach occasionally in Continuing Education courses. Robert’s historical and artistic knowledge stretches from the Middle Ages through the early 20th century. In Italy he has led many tours focusing on the Medieval and Renaissance periods.  Robert speaks fluent Italian and is a founding director of Academy Travel.
