Academy Travel invites you to join Dr Estelle Lazer and Dr Kathleen Olive for a special afternoon of lectures at Brisbane’s Gallery of Modern Art as they explore the wonders of Italy.
Dr Estelle Lazer, an international expert in forensic archaeology, who you may have seen on recent documentaries by the Smithsonian and the BBC, talks about her recent work and what the latest techniques have revealed about the men, women and children of Ancient Pompeii. Her research on the human remains of Pompeii has changed how we understand the ancient world.
Dr Kathleen Olive, a scholar of the Italian Renaissance whose work has been presented to Pope Francis as the official gift of the City of Florence, discusses the little-known lives and working conditions of women artists in the Italian Renaissance. While the great male artists of the Renaissance are well-known, it’s only recently that serious attention has been paid to the trailblazing women artists of Italy.
Dr Estelle Lazer is Honorary Research Associate at the University of Sydney and an internationally acclaimed archaeologist, who has worked on Pompeii and its victims for over 30 years. In addition to her work on Pompeii, she has also worked on archaeological sites in Australia, Antarctica and the Middle East.
Dr Kathleen Olive holds 1st class Honours and a PhD in Italian Studies from the University of Sydney, has taught Italian language, history and culture at UTS and the University of Sydney, and continues to lecture for ADFAS, adult education institutions, and the Italian Institute of Culture.
