From Venice to Ballarat: Art fairs, biennales and the economies of art

March 16, 2019 @ 2:30 PM - 3:30 PM

Speaker: Dr Nick Gordon

Academy Travel are proud to sponsor the Friends of Hazelhurst Regional Gallery’s Artz Talk 2019 program.

Art fairs, biennales and similar events have proliferated over the past 25 years, as major cities and regional towns seek to draw in art-lovers. The stories behind their creation, failure or success – as well as the impact they can have on the careers of artists on display – reveal much about the dynamics of the art world, from hothouse elites, investors and auctioneers to the changing roles of galleries and museums in local economies.

Dr Nick Gordon holds a University Medal and PhD in history from the University of Sydney. He’s also an artist, who leads and designs cultural tours for Academy Travel, including to a number of the world’s great art fairs and biennales.

The cost for this lecture is:

  • Friends of Hazelhurst $8
  • Non-members $14
