Dr Garth Gilmour
A trained biblical archaeologist and a fluent Hebrew speaker, with doctorate from Oxford University.
Biography
Dr Garth Gilmour is a Jerusalem and Oxford trained biblical archaeologist. A fluent Hebrew speaker, he received his MA from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1991 and his Doctorate from the University of Oxford in 1995.
He has excavated at a number of sites in Israel, Cyprus and Turkey, most notably in the Philistine capital cities of Ekron and Ashkelon. He has published widely on Biblical and near Eastern Archaeology and has recently completed the final report of the Palestine Exploration Fund excavations in Jerusalem.
Garth is originally from South Africa, has lived in Israel and the UK, and currently resides in Copenhagen. His interests include eastern Mediterranean trade in the Late Bronze Age, the archaeology of religion in ancient Israel and the history of Jerusalem.
