Associate Professor Kate Foy
A professional actor, research-practitioner and arts educator who specialises in actor-training and theatre history.
Biography
Associate Professor Kate Foy is a theatre historian, actor and educator with a stage career spanning more than 50 years. Performing professionally as Kate Wilson, she has appeared in over 30 productions with Queensland Theatre, where she later served as Chair, and has an extensive background in Australian university theatre.
Kate holds a BA and MLitt from the University of New England and a PhD from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, specialising in theatre history, voice and Shakespeare. Her doctoral research explored world theatre history, with a particular focus on the cultural development of Australian theatre during the colonial and post-Federation periods.
As Director of the University of Southern Queensland’s Performance Centre, Kate co-founded and produced the popular annual Shakespeare in Queen’s Park Festival in Toowoomba. She continues to work as a performer, educator and theatre consultant, contributing to arts advocacy and theatrical practice across Australia.
An enthusiastic traveller, Kate leads annual theatre tours to the United Kingdom, drawing on her extensive professional experience to offer an insider’s perspective on productions, performers and theatrical traditions.
