Dr Tarita Botsman

Biography

Dr Tarita Botsman is one of Australia’s most accomplished classical artists, as well as a celebrated director, producer, and writer. Her journey through opera, theatre, writing, and stage direction has solidified her reputation as a versatile artist and visionary.

Tarita studied opera at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, the Queensland Conservatorium of Music at Griffith University, and earned her PhD in music from The University of Queensland. A renowned soprano, she has performed with all the major Opera companies across Australia and has toured internationally, performing in Europe (especially France, Italy, and Germany), the UK, China, North Africa, and the Pacific.

Beyond her performances, Tarita’s creative spirit has led her to engage in multiple facets of the performing arts. She has directed numerous high-profile music events on a global scale, showcasing her talent for curating unforgettable experiences, and is the founder and Artistic Director of ABC Classics artists The 7 Sopranos, an independent national company that has employed over 400 singers across 15 years and delivered dozens of national and international tours and events across Australia, Asia, the US and Europe. Notable awards she has received for her contribution to the Arts include Young Australian of the Year, Monash University Italian Studies Award, an Ian Potter Cultural Trust Award, the Paul and Tony Kinane Scholarship for PhD studies in music, a Tait Memorial Trust Recipient (UK), and a Queen’s Trust Award from the UK for Excellence in the Performing Arts.

Tarita is an Adjunct Associate Lecturer at the School of Music at the University of Queensland, bringing decades of experience and passion, and she loves to share her insights through lectures and tours, built upon rigorous research and informed by her extensive first-hand experience and in-depth knowledge of the world of opera and music.
