Nicole Hayward

A cultural historian with a passion for art, fashion and textiles and a career in international corporate business.

Biography

Having a passion for art, fashion and textiles since childhood, and following a demanding career in international corporate business and as a tertiary education lecturer, Nicole established and continues to operate a busy learn-to-sew studio in Sydney where she shares her love for design and skill in handcrafting with adults and young people alike.

In addition to a Business degree (UTS), Nicole holds qualifications in advanced patternmaking and tailoring from the Italian fashion school, Centro Internazionale Alta Mode.

In recent years, Nicole has extended her business to curating and hosting short-break domestic itineraries, allowing her students to explore fashion related exhibitions, workshops and walking tours. Her students regularly appear in the HSC high achievers list and feature in the coveted Shape and Texstyle exhibitions.

With the world of fashion defined by the now, Nicole continually self-educates with costume and textile history research, European and North American subscriptions and podcasts, and through recreating designer garments. Her knowledge extends from the history of dress and haute couture design through to the ready-to-wear business models that dominate global fashion today.
