OVERVIEW
Bathed in clear southern light and shaped by ancient ranges, South Australia’s mid-north has long held a particular fascination for artists with its slate-built villages, open pastoral country and dramatic red-earth landscapes.
This new nine-day bespoke program balances creativity with exploration, offering extended stays in two contrasting regions – the Clare Valley and the Flinders Ranges – each providing abundant artistic inspiration. In the company of established artist and tutor John Haycraft, participants will enjoy plein-air painting demonstrations, personal tuition and the time to develop their own artist practice amid rolling vinyards and rugged mountain ranges. Non-painters are equally well catered for, with heritage walks, winery visits and scenic excursions showcasing the landscapes and history of South Australia.
Our itinerary explores the slate cottages and laneways of Mintaro, the vineyards of the Clare Valley and the heritage buildings of Bungaree Station. Continuing north, we paint among the ancient landscapes of Wilpena Pound, Blinman and Rawnsley Park Station before returning to Adelaide.
Prerequisite: As many mornings and afternoons will be spent painting, it is preferable for travellers to have some degree of experience and skill in drawing and/or painting to take full enjoyment from this tour. Non-painters are also welcome to join and will be well-catered for.
