OVERVIEW
Far North Queensland offers Australian landscape painting at its most vivid, bringing together volcanic crater lakes, ancient rainforest, tumbling waterfalls and tropical coastline, each with its own distinctive light and colour.
This eight-day tour, led by artist, author and tutor John Haycraft, moves from the cool uplands of the Atherton Tablelands to the tropical shores of Port Douglas. From our first lakeside base at Tinaroo, we paint the still waters of Lakes Eacham and Barrine, the heritage streetscapes of Yungaburra and the cascades of Millaa Millaa Falls, with further visits
to the Curtain Fig Tree, Atherton and Mt Uncle Distillery. We then descend through Kuranda to our beachfront base in Port Douglas, where we venture across the Daintree River to paint at Thornton Beach, returning via Mossman Gorge, and enjoy further sessions on Four Mile Beach and at Palm Cove.
Daily plein-air sessions combine demonstrations with personal tuition, while non-painters are equally well catered for through gallery visits, rainforest walks and time to explore the contrasting landscapes of the tablelands and coast.
Prerequisite: As many mornings and afternoons will be spent painting, it is preferable for travellers to have some degree of experience and skill in drawing and/or painting to take full enjoyment from this tour. Non-painters are also welcome to join and will be well-catered for.
