OVERVIEW
Umbria, Italy’s green heart, is a landscape of medieval hill towns, vineyards and olive groves, where art, agriculture and community have remained closely connected for centuries. Beyond its celebrated churches and Renaissance masterpieces lies another side of the region – one shaped by seasonal food, traditional crafts, family-run estates and small communities where local customs continue to form part of everyday life.
Led by artist Neil Moore, who has lived in Italy since 1988, this 14-day residential tour based in both Montefalco and Orvieto. Rather than moving quickly from place to place, these two extended stays allow us to settle into the region and explore it at a more measured pace. From Montefalco we explore Assisi, Perugia, Spoleto, Todi and Carsulae, while from Orvieto we venture into southern Umbria and neighbouring Lazio, visiting Viterbo, Bomarzo, Lake Bolsena and Civita di Bagnoregio.
Local encounters are woven throughout, from cooking in a private home to truffle hunting and wine tasting. A private visit to Neil’s restored 13th-century tower house and studio adds a particularly personal dimension, bringing together the landscape, history, art and living traditions of central Italy.
