OVERVIEW
The Mediterranean’s appeal lies in its long and layered history, cultural diversity and enduring island traditions. These are clearly expressed in Malta, Sardinia and Corsica, three islands with distinct identities shaped by millennia of settlement, conflict and exchange.
Led by archaeologist Dr Estelle Lazer, this 20-day tour begins in Malta, a small island with an exceptional concentration of archaeological and historical sites. From here we travel to Sardinia, where the remarkable legacy of the Nuragic civilisation is explored alongside the island’s Phoenician, Carthaginian and Roman past. Highlights include the UNESCO World-Heritage listed Su Nuraxi near Barumini, the ancient cities of Nora and Tharros, and the historic Catalan city of Alghero.
Our journey concludes in Corsica, where medieval hill towns, dramatic mountain landscapes and fortified coastal cities reveal an island shaped by both fierce independence and successive Mediterranean powers. From Bonifacio and Ajaccio to the Scandola Nature Reserve and the mountains of Corte, the tour brings together archaeology, history and landscape to explore one of the Mediterranean’s most distinctive islands.
