OVERVIEW
Morocco offers a remarkable interplay of cultural traditions, layered histories and striking natural environments. Roman provincial cities sit alongside medieval Arab and Berber towns, while Islamic craftsmanship flourished across the centuries in stucco, carved cedarwood and intricate zellij tilework.
On this comprehensive 20-day tour led by historian Dr Eireann Marshall we trace these diverse histories and environments, travelling from the Atlantic coast to the Rif Mountains, the imperial cities of Fes and Marrakesh, and the dramatic landscapes of the south. Across the journey we visit medieval walled towns and UNESCO World-Heritage sites, remote kasbahs, coastal fortifications and modern museums, as well as the country’s rich Roman heritage at Lixus, Volubilis and other key archaeological remains.
Combining a balanced pace with a wide-ranging introduction to Morocco’s history and living traditions, this itinerary offers an informed exploration of the country’s architecture, archaeology, cultural heritage and distinctive gastronomy.
