Biography
Juan Cardenas is a Peruvian and South American Tour Manager, local guide and Naturalist with more than 30 years’ experience guiding and sharing his passion with travellers and friends.
Born and raised in Perú, Juan started Guiding in 1992 in his hometown Cusco – the capital of the largest South American Culture, The Incas. On an interesting note, Juan guided a young Bradley Cooper through his journey in Peru in the early 1990s, along with Carol Thatcher on her visit to Cusco & Machu Picchu, and Anthony Horowitz as he wrote The Night of the Scorpion along the famous Inca trail.
Juan holds a degree in Business Administration and Tourism, Lic BA as a Tour Guide and South American Leader, from the University of Cusco San Antonio Abad. He has been leading South American trips as a Naturalist and Cultural guide in his home country of Peru, as well as Chile, Argentina, Bolivia, Brasil and MesoAmerica.
Juan’s Passion stretches from Early South American Cultures, like Tiahuanaco, through to the Spanish Conquest. Over the last 30+ years Juan has led many trekking, adventure & nature tours including Galapagos, Pantanal, Patagonia, Uyuni Salt flats and much more. He has a deep understanding of his own culture and passion for birding and photography.
Most recently Juan co-led with Dr Christopher Carter the first offering of Academy Travel’s tours to Chile & Patagonia.
