overview
“Quickly, bring me a beaker of wine, so that I may wet my mind and say something clever.” – Aristophanes, Greek comic poet (c. 450–385 BCE)
The history of the world, according to Tom Standage, author of A History of the World in 6 Glasses, can be told through six iconic beverages: beer, wine, spirits, coffee, tea and cola – everyday drinks that served as catalysts for societal change – from the agricultural revolution ignited by early beer brewing in Mesopotamia to the global influence of Coca-Cola as a modern symbol of American power and globalisation.
Join Kenneth W. Park on an evolutionary journey through society’s most cherished refreshments and the enduring legacies they have stirred throughout history.
