Ireland’s history spans millennia, shaped by a rich heritage that distinguishes it from neighbouring Great Britain.
Although settled at least 8,500 years, with evidence of human presence dating back 12,500 years, Ireland’s early story remains elusive as written records only begin around 2,000 years ago. While much focus is on later eras – such as the spread of Christianity, Celtic traditions, Viking invasions and Anglo-Norman conflicts – the island’s deep prehistoric history offers valuable insights.

YOUR EXPERT LECTURER
Dr Chris Carter is an Indigenous archaeologist with over 25 years’ experience leading international tours. He earned his PhD from ANU for research in Chile’s Atacama Desert and contributed to Chile’s UNESCO nomination for the Inka trails. Since 1995, he has been passionate about hands-on learning through educational tours worldwide.
