overview
Across the vast Roman Empire, sprawling cities rose – sustained by extraordinary feats of engineering and urban planning.
To support growing populations, Roman engineers devised complex systems ranging from towering aqueducts and durable roads to monumental amphitheatres and advanced infrastructure for waste management and imported drinking water. Drawing on techniques pioneered by the ancient Greeks and Etruscans, they reshaped not only the physical landscape but also the foundations of urban life, connectivity and imperial power.
Join historian Dr Eireann Marshall to explore one of the most remarkable legacies of the ancient world – Roman engineering.
