overview
In the far reaches of the Roman Empire, the province of North Africa flourished – its cities adorned with exquisite mosaics.
Created in an era of economic and cultural vibrancy, fueled by thriving trade with Rome, these artworks are both stunning in craftsmanship and rich in insight. Housed in Tunisia’s celebrated Bardo Museum, these mosaics offer vivid depictions of myth, leisure and domestic life, revealing how communities in Roman Africa saw themselves and their surroundings – blending Greek art forms, Roman ideals and distinctly African identities.
Join Dr Eireann Marshall for a visually rich journey through Roman North Africa – uncovering what mosaics reveal about a world where art, identity and empire converged.
