overview
Delve into the haunting, majestic world of Turandot – the final, unfinished masterpiece of Giacomo Puccini.
First performed at La Scala, Milan in 1926, Turandot draws from centuries-old Persian tales, centering on a princess who issues a deadly challenge to her suitors: answer three riddles or die. When the mysterious Prince Calàf accepts the challenge, Turandot is forced to confront emotions she’s long denied. Rich in symbolism and stirring arias, the opera raises enduring questions about power, love and the nature of transformation.
Join Sandy Burnett for a thought-provoking exploration of Turandot – and the questions it raises about cultural portrayal and the haunting legacy of art left incomplete.
