Biography
Kate Bolton-Porciatti (MPhil) is a cultural historian, academic, critic, journalist and experienced travel leader based in Florence, Italy. She holds an MPhil in Italian cultural history, with her postgraduate research focusing on the music and social world of early Renaissance Florence.
Kate is a professor of Italian cultural history and music at the Istituto Lorenzo de’Medici in Florence, where she teaches BA and MA courses in the humanities. She also lectures regularly at the British Institute in Florence and at the prestigious Chigiana Academy in Siena.
Before settling in Italy in the mid-2000s, Kate enjoyed a distinguished career in broadcasting in London as a Senior Producer and presenter for BBC Arts & Classical Music programmes, where she won Jerusalem and Sony Awards for her work.
In addition to her academic roles, Kate is a freelance travel writer and hotel critic, contributing to international publications and bringing a richly informed voice to cultural and travel writing. She has travelled widely, from the Himalayas to the Middle East, and her work reflects a deep engagement with the cultural histories and lived experiences of the places she visits.
Her teaching, writing and lecturing span music, art, history and landscape, making her a compelling and insightful guide on cultural journeys through Italy and beyond.
