OVERVIEW
Malta and Austria achieved remarkable musical and architectural flowering during the 17th and 18th centuries.
Valletta, built by the Knights of St John from the mid-16th century, became a centre of artistic patronage. Salzburg, birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1756, flourished under prince-archbishops who transformed the city into an Alpine expression of baroque and rococo splendour.
On this 14-day journey led by Tarita Botsman, we immerse ourselves in the vibrant festival traditions of both cities. Beginning in Valletta, we explore this UNESCO-listed capital during the annual Valletta Baroque Festival, enjoying seven performances at historic venues that include the Oratory of the Onorati and the 18th-century Teatru Manoel. Travelling to Salzburg, we then celebrate Mozart’s birthday with a further five concerts during Mozart Week, alongside visits to the landscapes of the Salzkammergut that influenced his early musical years.
Blending outstanding performances with guided visits, this tour vividly highlights the cultural achievements of these two cities.
