tour overview

Join us for a rare opportunity to explore the extraordinary and iconic works of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, alongside those of key Mexican contemporaries, at Frida & Diego: Love & Revolution, an Australian-exclusive exhibition coming to Adelaide’s AGSA this winter.

Radical in their art and politics, Kahlo and Rivera were at the forefront of the artistic and cultural avant-garde in post-revolution Mexico from the 1920s to the 1950s, and this exhibition positions both artists within the broader context of Mexican Modernism. We’ll enjoy a curator-led tour of the exhibition, which draws on more than 150 works from the unrivalled Jacques and Natasha Gelman Collection.

The tour is led by Distinguished Professor Peter McNeil and will be joined virtually by Chloë Sayer – a specialist in the art and culture of Mexico – for a background lecture on these captivating and provocative artists whose fusion of traditional folk art and international modernism stunned the art world.

This four-day tour is rounded out with a guided-visit through the Indigenous galleries of the South Australian Museum and the house and gardens of Carrick Hill, a day trip into the Adelaide Hills and Barossa Valley, and an evening performance at Adelaide’s iconic Her Majesty’s Theatre.
